Selfish. Let’s chat about the word quickly. It’s defined as “concerned chiefly with one's own personal profit or pleasure,” which means there is nothing wrong with being selfish.
It has taken me a long time to realize that being selfish is one of the best things I can be. No, it doesn’t mean that I am not concerned with helping others. It doesn’t mean that I am so self-absorbed that I’ll do things that will harm another person or the planet at large. What it does mean is that I am not going to deny myself in order to give to someone else.
You can’t pour from an empty cup, you have to be fully charged up in order to take care of everything that is demanding your time, energy, money, and attention. That’s why this month the affirmation is “I am worthy of having everything I want and need.”
You aren’t a horrible person for wanting a raise. You aren’t a horrible person for wanting to buy the good groceries at the store, or the nice pair of sunglasses that won’t break on you, or splurging on the $5.00 coffee every now and again. You have to take care of yourself first before you can take care of other people.
I am worthy of having everything I want and need.
