How to Reconnect to your Stones

(for the ones you’ve loved… and the ones that just found you)

There’s something exciting about the moment you bring a new stone home. the weight of it in your palm, the quiet hum of its energy, the way it seems to see you. Over time, even our most beloved crystals can start to feel a little… sleepy.
Or maybe, after the CT Witch Crawl, your altar is overflowing with new stones waiting to be introduced to your energy.

Here’s how to reconnect to your stones, both the ones you’ve had for years, and the ones that just crossed your path.

1. Reawaken the Relationship

Hold each stone in your hand, one at a time.
Whisper its name if it has one, or if it’s new, ask it to share its name with you. (I’m an animist, ok?!)
Feel its pulse. Notice if it feels cool, warm, heavy, light. This isn’t about memorizing metaphysical properties but rather about remembering the energy exchange.
Breathe your energy into it, and let it breathe back into you. All relationships should be built on some kind of reciprocity!

2. Cleanse Without Erasing

Your stone doesn’t need to be “wiped clean” (most of the time), it just needs to be refreshed. Use running water, moonlight, incense smoke, or sound to gently wash away stagnation without stripping away its story. Remember that if the stone ends in “ite” such as selenite, malachite, etc to keep it away from water!
Think of it as a sacred bath, not a reset button. Unless, of course, you want or need a clean slate, then go to town!

3. Reattune Your Intentions

Ask your stones if they’re still aligned with your current path.
The energy that once supported you through heartbreak might now want to guide you through expansion. Let each crystal tell you how it wants to serve or rest. Sometimes the most powerful magic is in honoring a stone’s need to simply be.
Also, don’t be afraid to regift stones or to lay them to rest in the Earth if you both no longer need to work together.

4. Invite the New Ones Home

If you brought home new treasures from the Witch Crawl, welcome them properly. Introduce them to your altar, your home, and your existing crystals.
You can even create a “stone circle” — place your old stones in a ring, and set the new ones in the center. Let them meet. Let them hum together.

5. Listen, Don’t Label

Every stone has a story, one that existed long before it met human hands. You don’t need to assign it a job. You just need to listen.
Meditate with one stone a week. Journal about what you feel. Let their voices guide your practice.

Think about how these stones have formed over the course of thousands and thousands of years. What stories do they know? What wisdom can they share?

When we reconnect to our stones, we reconnect to the earth itself.
To remember them is to remember that we, too, are ancient and alive and have stories to share!

If this sort of work excites you then you might like my upcoming virtual class called “Telling the Stones, Laying to Rest.” This is a virtual version of the class I taught during the CT Witch Crawl! We’ll be using rocks to carry our burdens for a moon cycle!
