🌳How To: Ground and Center 🌳

If you are new to mindfulness, witchcraft, or Paganism you might be a little confused about what grounding is, and why it’s so important. If you are diving into this world then you will be hearing this phrase a lot, and the practice is actually important so I thought I’d share my favorite way to ground and center.

There are many different ways that folks go about this, so remember that this is just my favorite way and that if it doesn’t resonate with you then that is perfectly fine, and you’ll just have to find a different method!

I use what is commonly referred to as the Tree Method. This involves visualizing yourself as a tree and connecting with the Earth and the Sky. 🌳✨

Grounding is the act of rooting or stabilizing your personal energy – similarly in electricity work – it is giving a place for the energy to go.

Centering is where you bring that energy back to center within the body, to steady the focus. One helps stabilize, the other helps to harness.

Here are the steps:

  1. Find a Quiet Space: Start by finding a quiet and comfortable space where you won’t be disturbed. This could be indoors or outdoors, wherever you feel most at ease. Outdoors, by an actual tree can be very helpful, but indoors works just as well.
  2. Get Comfortable: Stand with your feet hip-width apart and relax your body. Let your arms hang naturally by your sides. Try to release any tension that you might have. This can also work seated if you need.
  3. Visualize Your Roots: Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths to center yourself. Visualize roots growing out from the soles of your feet, extending deep into the earth. Imagine these roots reaching down through the soil, anchoring you firmly to the ground. See those roots twining around rocks, gems, bones, through the dirt of the ages, deep, deep down.
  4. Connect with the Earth’s Energy: Keep your roots growing to the center of the Earth. At the center you will find the core. You can see this as the molten core, or as a giant gemstone, a giant energy center. Wrap your roots around Earth’s core to steady you. As you continue to breathe deeply, imagine drawing up the earth’s energy through your roots. Feel the steady, nurturing energy of the earth flowing up through your body, providing stability and an anchor.
  5. Imagine Yourself as a Tree: Now, visualize yourself as a majestic tree. Feel your roots spreading wide and grounding you to the earth, while your body becomes the trunk that stands tall and strong. Raise your arms and imagine your branches reaching up towards the sky, connecting you to the heavens above.
  6. Balance and Harmony: As you embody the energy of the tree, find a sense of balance and harmony within yourself. Feel grounded and rooted, yet open and receptive to the energies around you.
  7. Affirmations: You can also incorporate affirmations into your practice to reinforce feelings of stability and centeredness. Repeat positive affirmations such as “I am grounded and secure,” or “I am connected to the earth’s energy.”
  8. Take Your Time: Take as much time as you need to fully immerse yourself in this practice. Allow yourself to relax and let go of any tension or stress you may be holding onto.
  9. Open Your Eyes: When you feel ready, pull your roots from around the core of the Earth back to your body. Bring your branches down back to arms. See yourself com e back to your body and gently open your eyes and take a moment to observe how you feel. Notice any sensations in your body and any changes in your state of mind.
  10. Express Gratitude: Before concluding your practice, take a moment to express gratitude for the earth’s energy and for the sense of grounding and centering you have experienced.
  11. Journal your experience to keep track of progress or important moments.

Remember, grounding and centering is a personal practice, so feel free to modify it to suit your own preferences and needs. And don’t forget to share your experiences and spread the love with hashtags like #Grounding #Centering #TreeMethod. 🌳✨
